Mary Elaine Boyd was born September 3, 1943, in Dallas, Texas, to John Ervin and Virginia Delores (Simon) Boyd. She grew up on Gould Street in Dallas and attended M. B. Lamar Elementary School until 1955, when her family moved to Breckenridge after her father accepted a position as a commercial printer with the Breckenridge American. She attended North Elementary in sixth grade, where she was a Red Raider cheerleader. On July 4, 1958, she was crowned Junior Miss Breckenridge during the celebration at Breckenridge City Park. She was always proud to be part of the Breckenridge High School Class of 1962.

On March 12, 1961, Elaine married the love of her life, Bobby Lee Goswick, in Sloan Chapel at First Methodist Church. In 1963, Elaine and Bobby, along with their infant son, Doug, moved to the Dallas area for work. They lived there for the next 12 years before returning home to Breckenridge in 1975. In the years that followed, Bobby and Elaine owned and operated True Value Hardware for many years. Together, they built a life rooted in hard work, family, and their hometown.

In October 1986, Elaine began serving as secretary and later financial secretary of First United Methodist Church of Breckenridge, a role she held until her retirement in October 2021. For 35 years, she faithfully served her church family and worked alongside 10 pastors. Whatever was needed, and whatever the hour, Elaine could be counted on to answer the call. Her dedication was far more than a job; it was an expression of her deep faith and her love for the people of her church.

Above all, Elaine treasured her family. She found her greatest joy in time spent with those she loved, especially her four grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She also loved playing cards with friends, sharing laughter, and enjoying the simple pleasures of life. Her warmth, steadfast devotion, and generous spirit made lasting memories for family and friends alike.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Lee Goswick; her parents, John and Virginia Boyd; her brother, John Matthew Boyd; her sister, Glenda Hasser; her grandparents, E. E. and Mary Etta Simon and Ross and Prula Boyd; and her uncles, R.D., Ren, and James Boyd.

She is survived by her son, Doug Goswick and wife Barry of Kingsland, Texas; her daughter, Debbie Karl and husband Perry of Breckenridge, Texas; grandchildren, Neisha Cehyah and husband Johnny of Ennis, Texas, SFC Zach Karl and wife Sheree of Naples, Italy, Austin Goswick and wife Shannon of Dripping Springs, Texas, and Derek Karl and wife Shayna of Abilene, Texas; great-grandchildren, Clayton Spencer and wife Rebecca, Claire Spencer, Callen Spencer, Callie Spencer, Kaylynn Karl, Kayden Karl, Colt Karl, Henry Goswick, Marlo Goswick, Lainee Daniels, Baylor Beauchamp-Karl, Kynzee Karl, and Tex Karl; and great-great-grandchildren, Van Spencer and Maverick Spencer; her sister, Vickie Yarbrough of Celeste, Texas; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Elaine’s life was a testament to faith, family, and a love that asked for nothing in return. The kindness she shared, the traditions she nurtured, and the example she set will continue to shape the lives of those who knew and loved her. Her family finds comfort in the promise that she is now at peace, reunited with loved ones, and at home with her Lord and Savior.

Memorials may be made to First Methodist Church of Breckenridge and may be left at Morehart Mortuary. Condolences may be made online at www.morehartmortuary.net.
