Penny Funderburg
Arvela “Penny” Funderburg, age 77, of Breckenridge, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2026, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, at Morehart Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Jim Noland officiating. Interment will follow in the Post Oak Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, at Morehart Mortuary.
Arvela Ann Ensey was born December 11, 1948, in Bowie, Texas, to parents Raymond Roe Ensey and Mary Beatrice Meyers Ensey. She was known to most as Penny and was raised and attended school in Breckenridge. On March 26, 1967, Penny and her love, Danny Funderburg, ran off to Mexico to be married. They enjoyed 59 years together.
Through the years Penny was a proud military wife, as her husband served in the United States Army. The family was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. Danny also served at Fort Polk in Louisiana and in Korea while Penny managed the family and things back home.
Penny was a woman of great faith and an active member of The Ridge Cowboy Church. She also loved to be with her family and was lovingly known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as “Ma-Ma.” Penny loved arts and crafts, painting, and watching the television show, Perry Mason.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Dennis Ensey.
Penny is survived by her loving husband, Danny Funderburg; son, Donald Funderburg and wife Michelle; daughter, Becky Smith and husband, Bill; sister, Kelly Hughes; brother, Donnie Ensey; five grandchildren, Daniel Smith and wife Alee, Kendra Funderburg, Megan Lee and husband Chanler, Zach Smith and wife Sam, and Matthew Funderburg; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
