Larry Theodore May
Larry Theodore May, 89, a cherished member of the community and beloved family man of Breckenridge, Texas, passed away on September 21, 2026. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Breckenridge Cemetery, with Noah Cullis officiating.
Born on October 2, 1936, in Haworth, Oklahoma, Larry’s journey through life was marked by dedication, humor, and an enduring love for his family and friends.
Larry was the devoted son of Theodore and Jewel May, who preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by his brother, Jimmy Dale May, and sister-in-law, Patricia Ann May. Larry’s legacy will continue through his surviving family members: his children: Eddie May and Rika May Wiersig, both of Oklahoma; and, his nieces Rebecca May of Kingwood, Texas, and Crystal Shook of Breckenridge, Texas. He was also a cherished great-uncle to Eric Shook and his wife Crystal and a great-great-uncle to Kaden, Brasen, and Talen Shook.
A proud graduate of Breckenridge High School in 1954, Larry served his country with honor in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1958, receiving an honorable discharge upon completion of his service. His commitment to learning led him to further his education at Central View University in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Larry dedicated many years of his professional life to Southerland Lumber Company, where he was known for his integrity and hard work before retiring. Beyond his career, Larry was a steadfast member of the Church of Latter-Day Saints for 35 years, where he fostered deep connections and friendships.
An avid reader, Larry found joy and solace in the pages of books. His quick wit and sense of humor were hallmarks of his personality, bringing smiles and laughter to all who had the pleasure to know him.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Villa Haven Nursing facility for the loving care and support provided to Larry during his nine-year stay.
In keeping with his wishes, a graveside service will be held to honor Larry’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the local Meals on Wheels and a charity of choice in Larry’s memory.
Larry Theodore May will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, humor, and love will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
