Joe Martinez
Joe Martinez, age 81, of Breckenridge, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2025. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in the Rule Cemetery in Rule, Texas, under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 13, at Morehart Mortuary.
Joe Luna Martinez was born June 18, 1944, in Alamo, Texas, to Leonardo Martinez and Paula Luna Martinez. He joined the United States Army and proudly served in the Vietnam War before his honorable discharge in 1970. On February 6, 2004, he married Katherine Jimenez in Abilene. Joe worked for the Texas Department of Transportation for years until his retirement. In his free time, he loved working on antique cars and going dancing. Most of all, Joe loved spending quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lupe Martinez; sister, Sista Eisenman; one nephew, Billy Wayne Martinez; one granddaughter, CeLeste Contreras; and Isabel Varges.
Joe is survived by his wife, Katherine Martinez; two daughters, Mariah Joe Martinez and MaKaLam Joe Martinez, both of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; three step-children, Teresa Contreras of Lubbock, Melinda A. Hatfield of Abilene, and Gabino Martinez of Abilene; four sisters, Mary Cedillo, Hope Goraham, Lala Foster of Fort Worth, and Janie Walton of Colorado Springs, Colorado; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
