Family Fun Festival scheduled for this evening, other Halloween events planned throughout week

The third annual Family Fun Festival will take place this afternoon, Tuesday, Oct. 28, in downtown Breckenridge. Events are scheduled for 4-7 p.m. in the area around the courthouse and city hall.

There are also a variety of Halloween and fall events scheduled throughout the week.

Family Fun Festival

The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce, City of Breckenridge and Stephens County have teamed up to present the third annual Family Fun Festival from 4 to 7 p.m. this afternoon and evening, Tuesday, Oct. 28, on the courthouse lawn and on the streets around city hall.

Beginning at 4 p.m., the 100 and 200 blocks of North Rose Avenue and the 200 and 300 blocks of West Elm Street will be blocked off for the event.

Scheduled activities include:

  • Trunk-or-Treat on Rose Avenue
  • Vendor booths on the west side of the courthouse lawn
  • Food vendors on West Elm Street
  • A children’s costume contest on the west side of the courthouse
  • A pumpkin decorating contest in front of city hall
  • A cake walk
  • A photo booth

The children’s costume contest will be at 6 p.m. across from City Hall on the courthouse sidewalk. It is open to kids age 12 and younger. Prizes will be awarded.

New this year will be hayrides, sponsored by Stephens County 4-H. The hayrides will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the 200 block of West Elm Street.

The pumpkin contest is open to all businesses and organizations in Breckenridge. Pumpkins can be carved, painted or otherwise decorated, and attendees to the Family Fun Festival will cast their votes. There will be cash prizes for the winners. Those participating in the pumpkin decorating contest will need to drop off their entry at City Hall, 105 N. Rose Ave.

Walker Street Trick-or-Treat

The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its annual Walker Street Trick-or-Treat event on Friday, Oct. 31. Participating businesses up and down Walker Street and beyond will be handing out candy during the businesses’ regular hours.

Other Activities

East Elementary, 1310 E. Elm St., will host its annual Trunk-or-Treat event from 4:45 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30, in the school’s parking lot.

First Baptist Church will host its annual Festival of Light with games, hotdogs, candy and prizes. The Festival of Light is a free event for all kids in fifth grade and under. It will be held at FBC, 301 S. Rose Ave.

First Methodist Church of Breckenridge will host a Fall Festival from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, in the church’s Christian Life Center, 419 W. Walker. There will be free food and carnival games; costumes will be welcomed.
