To celebrate Constitution Week, a group of fifth graders at South Elementary performed the play “Unite or Die: How Thirteen States Became a Nation” for their fellow fifth graders in the school cafeteria/auditorium on Thursday, Sept. 19.

Local members of the Lee’s Legion Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution helped the fifth graders put on the play, which teaches students how the original 13 states had to work together to create the U.S. Constitution.

Each student, who represented one of the original 13 colonies in the play, was given a sign to wear around their neck with the name of the state they were representing. When it was their turn to speak, they stepped up to the microphone and read their state’s part in the negotiation in creating the Constitution. Additionally, there were also four student narrators.

They will present the play again for members of the Woman’s Forum at noon, Tuesday, Sept. 24.
The cast of the play includes: Narrator One, Kason Bevering; Narrator Two, Matthew Wunsch; Narrator Three, Braylen McKoy; Narrator Four, Alayna Hodges; Connecticut, Kaylee Phelps; New York, Kendra Palacios; Pennsylvania, Caegan Elder; Massachusetts, Karlea Goin; Rhode Island, Ivette Arias; Maryland, Jack White; Virginia, Romney Hill; Delaware, Emma McCullough; New Jersey, Madison Honea; North Carolina, Hudson Woodward; Georgia, Mahaylee Seabourn; and New Hampshire, Kadynce Kennedy.

Earlier in the week, students and faculty at Breckenridge High School joined members of the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Bailey Auditorium on Monday, Sept. 16, to celebrate the kickoff of Constitution Week. Click here to see the Breckenridge Texan story.
