Public meeting to address failing TEA grade for North and East Elementary schools
Breckenridge’s East and North Elementary schools will host a public meeting on Thursday, Sept. 19, concerning the A-F Accountability Rating, which includes the Targeted Improvement Plan that will be used to increase student achievement.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. in the East Elementary cafeteria, 1310 E. Elm St., and will also include discussion about the Title 1 Parent/Teacher compacts.
East and North, which are grouped together in the Texas Education Agency’s accountability system for academic performance, received a failing grade (55), based on three areas: STAAR test performance, relative performance and grade level performance/student achievement. South Elementary and Breckenridge Junior High received a “D,” and the high school received a “C.”
In the “School Overview” area, the district received a “B,” based on the areas of student achievement, school progress and “Closing the Gaps.”
In the Sept. 9 Breckenridge Independent School District Board of Directors’ meeting, BISD Chief Learning Officer Molly Johnson addressed the board and explained that North and East elementaries are grouped together because East doesn’t receive a score on its own since the students there aren’t tested with the STAAR test. The “F” rating was based on the third-grade STAAR tests.
“They have gone into comprehensive school improvement,” Johnson said, explaining that the principals have been working on the Targeted Improvement Plans, which will be turned in to the TEA later this month.
