For the previous week, the sheriff’s office had 32 calls for service and served several sets of civil papers.

August 28

  • A delayed report of aggravated sexual assault of a child was made. This was reported to have occurred several times over the last few years at an address in the county.

A theft in progress of an ATV was reported where an 18-year-old adult male and a juvenile were reported as having committed the theft. As they fled the scene, a deputy pulled them over. After a preliminary investigation, both were charged with theft equal to or greater than $750 but less than $2,500.

September 1

  • A 22-year-old male was arrested after being pulled over for a traffic stop. A field investigation during the stop resulted in the driver being in possession of a felony amount of drugs, penalty group two. He was booked on the single charge at Stephens County Jail.

August 30

  • A report of aggravated sexual assault of a child was made on this date. Later in the day, a 59-year-old male suspect was arrested on an aggravated sexual assault of a child warrant. The warrant was obtained as a result of the investigation by the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office. The case is on-going.

September 3

  • A deputy transported a 20-year-old male from Burnet County Jail to Stephens County Jail for an arrest warrant related to a prior burglary of a habitation offense.
  • A family disturbance was reported on Private Road 299-3 at Possum Kingdom Lake. Upon arrival and after a preliminary investigation, a 42-year-old male was arrested for misdemeanor assault family violence against his father. Sheriff Holt would like to remind the public that if you are convicted of a family violence offense, you cannot legally possess firearms. Play it safe and walk away from family altercations.

Calls for service include but are not limited to: 911 calls, proactive contacts, non-emergency calls, registering sex offenders, serving civil papers, transporting prisoners and juveniles in and out of the county, mental hospital transports, court security, etc.
