J.W. West, the son of Oscar and Minnie West, was born in Jean, Texas, on March 30, 1929. J.W. went to school through sixth grade, and then went straight to work in order to help his family that he dearly loved. He worked in the oil field with various companies. The oil field business is what brought J.W. to Breckenridge. While living in Breckenridge, he met Clara, and they married in Graham in late 1981. It was right after their wedding that he bought his own drilling truck and started Dub West Drilling Service. J.W. ran that drilling service for over 30 years here in Stephens County. He always believed in working hard, and playing even harder when he had the opportunity. J.W. loved to fish in his spare time and show his grandkids how to run the trot lines. He made a many of good memories with those he loved on fishing trips. J.W. was a member of Gunsight Baptist Church and was proud of being baptized in the church by his pastor that he thought so much of.

J.W. was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, two special nieces and two special nephews; along with Peggy Lough, Bobbie Riley and Andrew West.

Mr. West is survived by his wife, Clara; two daughters, Debbie Mc Donald of Big Spring, and Linda Cozart Couch and Bubba of Big Spring; one son, Ray McDonald and Brandy of Breckenridge; along with seven grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Meals on Wheels of Breckenridge and may be left at the Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home. Condolences may be made online at www.meltonkitchens.com.
