Stephens County District Attorney Dee Peavy recently announced the following cases pleaded in the 90th Judicial Court for July and August.

July 2026

• Bobby Wayne Mendez, 44, Breckenridge, pleaded guilty to the offense of Tampering with a Witness – Family Violence Case, and was sentenced to 12 years confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Institutional Division (TDCJ-ID), and was ordered to pay $1,500 fine and court cost.
• Terry Jack Woodruff, 65, Graham, pleaded true to the violations alleged in the State’s Motion to Proceed to Adjudicate Community Supervision for the offense of Sexual Assault of Child – Lesser Included Offense, and was sentenced to 10 years confinement in the TDCJ-ID, and was ordered to pay court cost.
• Reynaldo Vargas, 40, Breckenridge, pleaded guilty to the offense of Assault Peace Officer/Judge, and was sentenced to eight years confinement in the TDCJ-ID and was ordered to pay $1,000 fine and court cost; and pleaded guilty to the offense of Escape While Arrested/Confined-Felony, and was sentenced to eight years confinement in the TDCJ-ID and was ordered to pay court cost.
• John Christopher Salazar, 42, Breckenridge, pleaded guilty to the offense of Terroristic Threat Against Peace Officer/Judge, and was sentenced to 15 months confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – State Jail Division (TDCJ-SJ), and was ordered to pay $750 fine and court cost.
• Christopher Thorne Hayworth, 33, Breckenridge, pleaded guilty to the offense of Theft of Material Aluminum/Brone/Copper/Brass, and was sentenced to four years Community Supervision, and was ordered to pay $750 fine, court cost and restitution.
• Stephen Michael Karle Dennis, 37, Rising Star, pleaded guilty to the offense of Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 2 More Than One Gram but More Than Four Grams – Psilocin, and was sentenced to three years Community Supervision, and was ordered to pay $1,000 fine, court cost and restitution.

August 2026

• Robert Thomas James, 30, Breckenridge, pleaded guilty true to the violations alleged in the State’s motion to proceed to Adjudicate Community Supervision for the offense of Evading Arrest or Detention with Vehicle, and was sentenced to eight years confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Institutional Division (TDCJ-ID) and was ordered to pay remaining court cost; and pleaded guilty to the offense of Unlawful Possession of Firearm by Felon, and was sentenced to eight years confinement in the TDCJ-ID, and was ordered to pay court cost.
• Candice Lynn Carey, 44, Breckenridge, pleaded true to all violations but the State abandoned violation number 10, for the offense of Theft of Property More Than $2,500 but Less Than $30,000, and was sentenced to 20 months confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – State Jail Division (TDCJ-SJ), and was ordered to pay remaining court cost.
• Jayden Danielle Riley, 27, Breckenridge, pleaded true to the violations alleged in the State’s Motion to Adjudicate Community Supervision for the offense of Abandon or Endanger a Child – Intentionally/Knowingly/Recklessly/Criminal Negligence, and was sentenced to 18 months confinement in the TDCJ-SJ and was ordered to pay remaining court cost; and pleaded true to the violations alleged in the State’s Motion to Adjudicate Community Supervision for the offense of Abandon or Endanger a Child – Intentionally/Knowingly/Recklessly/Criminal Negligence, and was sentenced to 18 months confinement in the TDCJ-SJ and was ordered to pay remaining court cost.
• Owen Jay Willis, 38, Breckenridge, pleaded true to all the violations, except violation of condition number 10 alleged in the State’s Motion to Adjudicate Community Supervision, for the offense of Theft of Property More Than $2,500 but Less Than $30,000, and was sentenced to 15 months confinement in the TDCJ-SJ, and was ordered to pay remaining court cost.
• Julio Cesar Miranda, 35, Breckenridge, pleaded guilty to the offense of Assault Public Servant, and was sentenced to eight years Community Supervision, and was ordered to pay $1,500 fine and court cost.
