Stephens County Memorial Day Ceremony scheduled for Monday, May 25, on courthouse lawn
The annual Stephens County Memorial Day Ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Monday, May 25, at the courthouse, 200 W. Walker St.
The event will honor local U.S. military veterans who died in 2025. Their names have been engraved on the veterans monument located on the southwest corner of the courthouse lawn. Additionally, the names of several veterans who died in previous years and were inadvertently left off of the monument have been added.
The ceremony will be open to anyone who wants to attend.
On Saturday, May 23, volunteers are invited to gather at the Breckenridge Cemetery, 1301 E. Elliott St., at 8 a.m. to help place American flags on the graves of U.S. military veterans. Click here for more information on participating in that effort.
Most government agencies and many businesses will be closed on Monday for Memorial Day.
However, continuing a local tradition, the City of Breckenridge’s community swimming pool is scheduled to open this weekend. The pool will be open on Saturday, May 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; on Sunday, May 24, from noon to 4 p.m.; and on Monday, May 25, from noon to 6 p.m. Regular business hours will begin on Tuesday, May 26. Admission to the pool costs $3 per person with children age 3 and under admitted at no charge. Children age 10 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. For more information about the pool, visit the City of Breckenridge’s website.
