Breckenridge High School senior Kason Burchett was named the Texas FFA Plant ID State Champion at Saturday’s contest in Lubbock, and the Breckenridge Plant ID team placed seventh in the state.

Texas Tech University hosted the 2026 FFA Career Development Events (CDEs) for the Texas FFA.

Burchett had a score of 625, more than 20 points above the second place contestant. He received a belt buckle and plaque for being the high point individual in Range Plant ID.

He was joined in Lubbock by the rest of the BHS Plant ID team, which included Rachel Burchett, Kole Wright and Lizandra Rubio, as well as Kason Burchett. Overall, the team’s score earned them a seventh place plaque.

The team returned home Saturday evening, May 2, and was greeted by family and friends. Each member of the team signed the back of  their plaque that will be placed in the hall of the ag building.

The local FFA chapter will celebrate the 2025-26 year with its annual banquet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at the Breckenridge ISD Athletic Facility’s main gym.

To help pay for the local FFA students to travel to the FFA state convention in Fort Worth this summer, the Breckenridge FFA Alumni and Supporters group is hosting a silent auction. The silent auction is taking place on Facebook (click here) and will continue  Thursday night during the banquet. All of the items are listed on the group’s auction Facebook page.

For more information, or if you cannot attend the banquet to place a final bid, contact BHS ag teacher Shalley Boles at shalley.boles@breckenridgeisd.org.
