Texas officials are encouraging veterans to share their stories of military service through the Voices of Veterans Oral History Program, an initiative that records and preserves firsthand accounts of service and life after returning home.

The program, administered by the Texas General Land Office and the Veterans Land Board, documents veterans’ experiences and archives them in the Office of Veterans Records. There, the accounts join historical materials related to notable Texans, including Sam Houston, Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie and William Barret Travis.

Nearly 600 interviews have been recorded to date and are available to researchers, historians, genealogists and the public. Organizers say the collection serves as a resource to help future generations better understand the sacrifices and experiences of military service members.

Veterans who wish to participate can submit their information to the program, after which an oral history coordinator will follow up to arrange an interview.

Veterans interested in sharing their story with the Voices of Veterans Oral History Program can click on the link below to submit their information. Once your contact information is received, the Oral History Program coordinator, James Dillon, will contact you to provide additional information and set up an interview.
