Paintings of Texas artist Steve Miller on exhibit at Breckenridge Fine Arts Center
The paintings of Texas artist Steve Miller are on display in the Breckenridge Fine Arts Center’s main gallery through June 26.
The “Echoes of a Journey” exhibit includes some of Miller’s oil, pastels, charcoal, and casein paintings. The subjects range from the humid, moss-draped landscapes of the Deep South to the vast, open skies of West Texas, and his driving pursuit is the same across all of them: the way light and shadow shape a face, a hillside, or a horizon to reveal beauty, depth, and sometimes mystery, according to his bio on the BFAC website.
Miller and his wife, photographer Donna Miller, had their work featured in the BFAC’s “Shutters & Strokes” exhibit in 2023.
During that exhibit, the couple explained that much of their inspiration comes from being in the outdoors, driving around, looking and exploring and adventuring and taking pictures. They enjoy driving out on the back roads across Texas seeing a lot of interesting things along the way.
Robyn Brooks, director of the BFAC, said that Steve Miller will teach a plein air art class in Breckenridge later this year.
The BFAC is located at 207 N. Breckenridge Ave. and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, visit the website www.breckenridgefineart.org or call the Breckenridge Fine Arts Center at 254-559-6602.
