Stephen Garren

Stephen Garren

Stephen Earl Garren left this world for Heaven on March 10, 2026, at the age of 67. There will be a public visitation on Monday, March 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Melton-Kitchens Chapel of Memories. The family will be having a private memorial service at a future date. Melton-Kitchens have been entrusted with his cremation.

Stephen was born in the old St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, on June 19, 1958, to Bobby Earl and Norma Howard Garren. He was a 1976 graduate of L.D. Bell High School in Hurst, where he learned the auto body trade. He worked in that field for many years, also doing auto mechanic work, and later spent many years as a mechanic in the industrial food business. That profession led to jobs in several bakeries across the United States, as well as in Oman and Toronto, Canada.

On October 3, 1976, he met, fell in love with, and later married Marjorie Silence of Fort Worth. Between raising their children and traveling, they had many adventures together. Stephen was talented in many other fields, including art, metal art, welding; basically, he was the proverbial “Jack of all trades” in every sense of the word. His passion was spoiling grandchildren and feeding his family, even if they weren’t hungry. A friend called, talking about Stephen’s overalls and how they made him want to wear his, too. Stephen, like his Dad, always wore bib overalls, which held lots of goodies in the pockets for grandbabies to play with, even if it was just a wrench or a screwdriver. He shared his love of music and going to concerts with our daughter and always made sure we had the best music on our phones for road trips.

As his sweetheart for almost 50 years, there are so many things I could say, but I can’t. His unexpected loss is devastating, but knowing that our extended family, dear friends, and church family are loving on us with prayer, food, visits, and contact has been amazing.

Stephen was preceded in death by his father; grandparents, Earl and Marie Garren, Mildred Howard and Guy Howard; nephew Jeremy Garren; and brother Stacy Garren.

Stephen is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years; daughter, Liz Garren; son, Chris Garren; and precious grandchildren, Kaydance Davis, Phoebe Garren and Logan Kelso. He is also survived by his sister, Stephanie Welsh; mother, Norma Garren; nephew, Garren Daniel and his wife Natasha, and their family, cousins, and friends.

Condolences can be made at meltonkitchens.com.
