Louy Trammell, 90, of Breckenridge, passed into his eternal heavenly home on February 15, with his wife and daughters holding his hands in the home that he designed and helped build.

His funeral service at Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home will be held on Thursday, February 19, beginning at 11 a.m., with Genoa Goad officiating. The family will welcome friends for a visitation on Wednesday, February 18, from 6-7 p.m. at Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home.

Louy was born September 29, 1935, in Mathis, Texas, to Louy E. Trammell and Dollie Hatchet-Trammell of Breckenridge. At age six, Louy, his mother, and sister moved to Eolian when his father joined the Navy in WWII. He graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1954, then served his country proudly in the United States Navy. He has wonderful stories he loves to share with many people about seeing Alaska and Japan, where he learned to love sushi and other Asian foods. Louy then met Barbara in Houston after learning about one another through weekly letters while he was at sea.

In his professional life, Louy worked at Boheck Engineering in sales before moving on to a 13-year career with Brown and Root, working in their international department, where he procured equipment and materials for offshore drilling platforms in the North Sea. His career took him and his family on a fabulous journey, living in London and Paris for four years before returning stateside to Houston. In 1982, his career brought him to Caracas and Muerte La Cruz, Venezuela.

Louy was not only a dedicated professional but also a man of faith and community. He served as a deacon in Eolian Community Church. He had a brilliant mind and a curious spirit, evident in his love for rebuilding computers well into his 80s. He was talented in so many ways, carpentry, electrical, plumbing and anything mechanical. Louy was known as the Eolian Handyman. He was passionate about fishing, and he loved both salt and freshwater fishing and looked forward to his summer trips to Gunnison, Colorado, with his childhood friend Jesse Amason.

Louy was preceded in death by his sister, Anita Hyland, whose memory he cherished deeply throughout his life. He was also preceded in death by his dear niece Adrienne Young.

Louy is survived by his wife, Barbara, they were married for 68 years; their two daughters, Anita Trammell of Todos Santos, BCS, and Lisa Trammell-Baugher and her fiancé, Walter Chambers, of Breckenridge; nephews, Gene Allen and wife, Pam Young of Jacksonville, Texas, and Dan Ray and Carie Young of Citrus Springs, Florida; great-nieces, Danyele Jans and spouse, Jack of Citrus Springs, Florida, and Mandy Derkowski and spouse, Robby of Hempstead, Texas; and great-nephew, Glen Young of Cleveland, Texas.

The family would like to thank Villa Haven Nursing Home and Solaris Hospice Continuous Care team for their gentle, loving care in making Dad’s passing pain-free and comfortable, for us as well.

Memorials in Louy’s honor can be made to the Breckenridge Animal Shelter and left at Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home. Condolences can be left at meltonkitchens.com.
