Shelia Caywood, 76, of Breckenridge, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026. Her funeral service at The Gunsight Baptist church will be held on Thursday, February 12, beginning at 1 p.m. The family will welcome friends for a visitation on Wednesday, February 11, from 6-7 p.m., at Melton-Kitchens Chapel of Memories.

Shelia Marie Sanders was born July 14, 1949, in Breckenridge, Texas, to Carl James Sanders and Margie Mae Adams. Sheila attended and graduated from Breckenridge High School.

She married Elton Paul Luther on March 18, 1966, and together they welcomed two children, Kenny and Darlene. The couple later divorced. On January 18, 2008, Sheila married Joe Caywood and gained an extended family; they have since divorced but remained friends.

Shelia began working at TDCJ as a correctional officer. After retiring from TDCJ, she became a full-time stay-at-home Nana, a role she cherished deeply. Sheila was one of the biggest fans of the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed trips to the casinos whenever she could. Of all the roles she held throughout her life, she took the greatest pride in being a Nana and a loving family member to all.

Shelia was preceded in death by her parents, Margie and Carl Sanders; and her son, Kenneth Carl Luther.

She is survived by her daughter, Darlene Hill, and husband, Erik, of Breckenridge; her grandchildren, Boston Luther of Breckenridge, Brionna and husband Darrell Mathis of Breckenridge, Tandem Ditzel and wife Madisen of Liberty Hill, Taylen Hill of Breckenridge, McKenna Hill of Colorado City; her great-grandchildren Willow Rodriguez of Weatherford, Kennadie and Kensley Mathis of Breckenridge, and Jakari Walthall of Colorado City. She is survived by all three of her siblings, David Giles and wife Linda of Breckenridge, James Sanders and his wife Punky of Breckenridge, and Carla Boggs of Breckenridge; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. And loved by Chastity Lambert, Javy and Easton Gonzalez, and Brynnlee Gail Coleman (B Sue).

Shelia will be remembered as a caring woman who loved with her whole heart. She devoted herself to her family, both those related by blood and those she welcomed as her own. She was incredibly strong, dedicated, and wise. Her special sense of humor brought joy to everyone around her, and her love and kindness created a warmth that touched every life she encountered. Words cannot fully capture the impact she had, but each person who crossed her path carries their own treasured memories of her. May we take comfort in sharing those memories and celebrating the wonderful life she lived.

In honor of Shelia, memorials can be made to Meals on Wheels and condolences can be made at meltonkitchens.com.
