Betty High
Betty High, 90, of Breckenridge, passed away on December 17, 2025. Her funeral service at the Elliot Street church of Christ will be held on Monday, December 22, beginning at 11 a.m. with Don Nelson officiating.
Betty June (Griggs) High was born on June 27, 1935, in Romney, Texas, to Carl and Ada (Sullivan) Griggs.
She graduated from Breckenridge High School as Valedictorian in 1954. After graduation, she went to work for Blake Johnson Insurance Company, and later she went on to work for ME Daniel Oil Company and then Chemical Process.
In 1957, she was employed by PetCo – Petroleum Corporation of Texas, as the secretary to the Chief Geologist, for almost 25 years. Soon after, she joined Connor Oil part-time and then Jerry Gibson Insurance agency, part-time.
She married the love of her life, Joe High, on December 16, 1960, in Breckenridge, Texas, where they added their son, Brent, in April of 1975, to make them complete.
Betty enjoyed canning, sewing her own clothes, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Russell Brent High; brothers: Milton, Charlie, and Billy Griggs; and sisters Maxine (Griggs) Hoff and Frankie (Griggs) Hill.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband of 65 years, Joe High; daughter-in-law, Brandi High Burks and husband Brandon of Nazareth, Texas; and grandchildren Bryson High, Jayden High, Caysen High, and Brystol Burks.
