Tommy Wimberley, 88, of Breckenridge, passed away on December 1, 2025. His graveside service will be held at Breckenridge Cemetery on Monday, December 8, beginning at 12:30 p.m., with Bob Sumner officiating. The family will welcome friends for a visitation at Melton-Kitchens Chapel of Memories on Sunday, December 7, from 5 to 6 p.m.

Tommy Carrol Wimberley was born on October 16, 1937, to parents Dennis Poleon Wimberley and Nina Belle Wesley Wimberley. He attended Breckenridge High School before enlisting in the United States Air Force, where he served from 1954 to 1958 as a medical corpsman.

After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he attended college in Abilene, Texas, at Hardin Simmons University, where he obtained a start in the electrical field. He worked as an electrician for a few years before opening Wimberley Electric in Breckenridge in 1963. He worked for several years building the start of the dynasty now known as Wimberley Inc. He married Sharon West Wilkerson in 1975.

They called Breckenridge home for 51 years. During that time, Tommy was a leader in the Breckenridge community. He developed numerous residential neighborhoods and brought (and developed) several businesses to town, such as Walmart. Tommy took pride in all his work and anything that he had a hand in.

He loved nostalgic oilfield equipment, such as the old iron oil derrick that sits next to Ken’s. That was the last iron derrick left in Stephens County. Tommy bought and moved the derrick to town, where it has been displayed at several locations. The derrick now sits at its final place, where it is now dedicated to his son, Wendell (Wimp) Wimberley. Tommy has since bought an old rail line Caboose that he was in the process of restoring, which sits on the same lot as the derrick.

Tommy loved to hunt, especially in the mountains of Colorado. He loved animals, which he displayed with his dog Crickett, his goats, and the buffalo. Tommy was known as a great man and would give to many, not wanting any recognition in return.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis Poleon Wimberley and Nina Belle Wesley Wimberley; brother, Oliver Joe (BO} Wimberley; sisters Dennie Stanley and Judy Crockett; son, Wendell Dean (Wimp) Wimberley; nephews, Steve Crockett, Dennis (Goober) Stanley, and Sammy Stanley; and great-great granddaughter Taylynn Carrol Cumpton.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon West Wilkerson Wimberley; sister, Nina Darlene Wimberley; daughters, Kerrie Leigh Wimberley and Peggy Sue Gonzales; sons, Tommy Doug Wimberley, Tab Stephens, and wife Keri; grandkids Ron Jones, Tiana McFarland, Josh Patterson, Cody Wimberley, Cory Wimberley, Coby Wimberley, Brooke Tichnor, Macayla Holcomb, Kendra Holcomb, Katlyn Parr, Rusty Joe Gonzales, Sarah Stephens and Kyle Stephens; 23 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to Meals on Wheels and left at Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home; condolences can be left at meltonkitchens.com.

A special “THANK YOU” to Solaris Hospice Care for their extraordinary service.
