Local DAR chapter hosts traveling American Revolution exhibit in Cisco
A traveling exhibit offering an immersive look at the people and events of the Revolutionary War is now on display at the Myrtle Wilks Community Center in Cisco through Dec. 6.
The American Revolution Experience Traveling Exhibit, a partnership between the Daughters of the American Revolution and the American Battlefield Trust, is located in the Big Dam Lobo Room of the center located on Interstate 20 in Cisco.
Hosted by the Lee’s Legion Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, the exhibit is part of an effort to highlight the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026. The local DAR chapter was founded in 1926 and includes members from the surrounding area, including Breckenridge, Albany, Moran and Cisco.
The exhibit utilizes state-of-the-art technology, illustrations and other items to tell the story of the war. Through display panels and interactive digital kiosks, the exhibit offers diverse viewpoints and experiences, delving into the literal and figurative journeys of Patriots, Loyalists, men, women, Black and Native populations, and international allies. It introduces audiences to the drummer boys, military mapmakers, and other ordinary individuals deeply affected by global events.
The Texas Society DAR purchased the exhibit to tour the state for the next three years. The society added two panels to the display that specifically explain the contributions of the region that is now Texas to the Revolutionary War.
The Myrtle Wilks Community Center is located at 1498 Interstate 20 West in Cisco. According to the center’s website, it is open to the public from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, but it will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.
