Oncor presents $20,000 grant to Hubbard Creek VFD
The Hubbard Creek Volunteer Fire Department received a $20,000 grant from the Oncor Cares Foundation on Nov. 10.
Oncor Area Manager Gordon Drake recognized the VFD for their dedication and the hard work they do protecting the local community. The grant is part of a $520,000 investment the foundation is making to 26 VFD’s located in the West and Northwest Texas counties. Earlier this month the foundation also presented a $20,000 grant to the Caddo VFD.
“It means the world to us,” Hubbard Creek VFD Chief Carl Huffman said about the grant. “We can sure go down the road lot longer, buying tires and fixing our equipment.”
The various VFDs being recognized were chosen based on their volunteer status, community value and the challenges that can make firefighting more common and difficult in this area, Drake said in a news release.
Any grant funds provided by the Oncor Cares Foundation are to be used for training, operating, maintaining and the replacement of firefighting equipment which the foundation understands can help make a big difference for these fire departments, Drake said.
“Safety is a part of everything we do at Oncor, and the volunteer firefighters represent a part of the many important safety partners we work with across our service area,” Drake said.
