A quilt featuring the brands of dozens of Stephens County families is helping to raise funds for the Swenson Memorial Museum. The museum will hold a drawing next month to give away the quilt to a lucky ticket holder.

Tickets for the quilt cost $10 each or three for $25 and are available at the museum, 116 W. Walker St., from museum board members or at Breckenridge’s Clear Fork Bank. The drawing will be held on Dec. 19. All proceeds will be used by the museum for day-to-day operations.

The green and white quilt features 52 brands submitted by local families for inclusion on the quilt. After the brands were turned in, Paula Grissom with Farmhouse Threads cut out the designs and put them on white quilt blocks. Carol McKee made the star blocks for each corner. Then, the museum’s staff, board members and friends of the museum sewed around the edges of each brand and pieced the blocks together. Linda Venekamp with Linda Lou’s Quilt Shop completed the quilting.

The quilt is on display at the museum. “Everybody really likes it,” said Kay Meadows, director of the museum. “It’s simple and yet it’s nice.”

The Swenson Memorial Museum is Stephens County’s historical museum, featuring dozens of exhibits on life in Breckenridge and other Stephens County communities. It is located in downtown Breckenridge at 116 W. Walker. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information, call 254-559-8471.
