Marion Turner, 78, of Breckenridge, passed away on August 29, 2025. Her memorial service at Melton-Kitchens Chapel of Memories will be held on Wednesday, September 3, beginning at 1 p.m., with Charles West officiating.

Marian Sue Turner was born July 28, 1947, in Weatherford, Texas, to Thomas Wesley and Yvonne Bryant, and spent her early years in the Brock area. Her parents owned a fertilizer business and hauled peanuts and hay; they also helped the family out with their vegetable hot houses. Sue frequently reminisced about working at the Weatherford Farmers’ Market for her relatives, Bill and Effie Basham.

Sue attended school in Brock, Texas, where she played basketball and was elected Miss Brock High School her senior year. Upon graduation from high school, Sue attended Weatherford College, where she also worked as a telephone operator. During this time, she and her best friend from Brock met their lifelong sweethearts from Breckenridge, Texas. At this point, Sue married this young man, Sam Turner, and moved to their place in Necessity, Texas, where they lived out their marriage until Sam passed away in June 2020.

Sam and Sue were married for 52 years. Upon settling down in Necessity, Sue and Sam started their family, having one son, Brad Turner of Lipan, Texas, and a daughter, Tracey Harrison of Lipan. Sue worked various jobs while living in Necessity. She spent some time at the hospital in Breckenridge, Texas, and also as an office manager for a gas and oil company.

Sue quickly fell in love with the life that Sam truly loved, farming and ranching. She and Sam raised Beefmaster cattle for 52 years, and their cattle became an icon in the association. Sue loved managing the land with Sam, being around the cattle, and being with her family She was a woman that loved the Lord, that loved being around others, loved the Dallas Cowboys – winning or losing, loved her cows and her place and most of all loved being with her grandkids, Cole Turner of Lipan, Cade Turner of Lipan, and Trent and Madison Harrison of Lipan.

In December of 2011, Sue was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer. She didn’t blink an eye and was cancer-free within the year. For the last part of her life, she struggled with heart issues, which for the most part did not slow her down until the last few years. However, there are some things that remained constant: Sue, also known as Ma’am and Poppy, loved her family, her friends, her dogs and cats, and her cows. In July of 2025, Sue was in a car wreck where she suffered a broken leg. From this setback, it seemed that she faced one hurdle after another. She passed peacefully in the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Lipan. She will truly be missed, and the love her family holds for her will live on through each of them.

Sue is survived by her son and his wife, Brad and Evella of Lipan; her daughter and her husband, Tracey and Brad Harrison of Lipan; her grandchildren, Coleman Turner and Cade Turner of Lipan, and Trent and Madison Harrison of Lipan; and countless cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Memorials in her honor can be made to the Shriners Hospital or the Necessity Baptist Church and can be left at Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home. Condolences can be made at meltonkitchens.com.
