Barbara Atkinson, 86, of Woodson, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2025. Lester Atkinson, 90, of Woodson, passed away Friday, August 22, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, at First Baptist Church Woodson with Jeremy Smith and Pete Parker officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodson Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, August 25, at Morehart Mortuary.

Lester Buford Atkinson was born January 17, 1935, in Woodson, Texas, to parents William Alvin Atkinson and Odessa Wright Atkinson. After graduation, he joined the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1956. Lester then went to work for Texas Electric which eventually became TXU. He worked there for many years until his retirement. Lester was active in the VFW, the American Legion and the Sheriff’s Posse. Barbara Jean Hutson was born March 16, 1939, in Nocona, Texas, to parents Leo Forrest Hutson and Opal Inez Lanford Hutson. She was involved in Desk & Derrick Club, the Red Hat Society and the Fellowship Committee of Woodson Baptist Church. On June 25, 1955, Lester and Barbara were married in Haskell, Texas. The two raised their three children and eventually made their home in Woodson, Texas. They were active members of the First Baptist Church of Woodson.

Mrs. Atkinson was preceded in death by her parents; one brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Barbara Hutson; one sister, Judy Hutson; and two nephews. Mr. Atkinson was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years by 16 hours and 27 minutes; his parents; and four brothers, James K. Atkinson, Kenneth Atkinson, Ray Atkinson, Frank Atkinson.

Mr. and Mrs. Atkinson are survived by their three children, Sheilah Atkinson Owens and husband Curtis of Woodson, Les Atkinson and wife Terri, and Mike Atkinson and wife Terryl, all of Breckenridge; 18 grandchildren, Amber Atkinson, Jodie Gould and husband Brock, Kaily Stone and husband Shelby, Kayla Atkinson, Mikki Shaw and husband Michael, Molli Roark and husband Dan, Macci Cominsky and husband Casey, Bailee Hill, Jason Anderson and wife Stephanie, Leslie Atkinson, Joshua Anderson and wife Cayce, Chris Owens and wife Jami, Kyle Atkinson, Brodee Atkinson, Bryce Hill, Braxton Walker and wife Lorena, Lincoln Finkbeiner and Grant Finkbeiner; 30 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Atkinson is also survived by two brothers, Doyce Hutson and wife Carol, and Terry Hutson and wife Vera. Mr. Atkinson is also survived by two siblings, Wilburn Atkinson and wife Joyce, and Donna Atkinson Rials.
