Fundraiser organized to assist new mom who’s been hospitalized for almost two months

An online fundraiser has been organized to benefit a Breckenridge woman, Miranda Mathias and her family during an ongoing medical crisis.
On May 24, Mathias and her boyfriend, Braxton Brogdon, welcomed their daughter, Maeve Helaena Brogdon, into the world via emergency C-section. Baby Maeve was flown to Cook Children’s Medical Center and spent her first 18 days in the NICU, according to the fundraiser Facebook page.
Just six days later, Mathias was hospitalized with severe postpartum preeclampsia and a rare intra-abdominal infection. She has remained hospitalized ever since — more than 50 days, so far.
On July 4, she was transferred to a Long-Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH), where she continues to fight through a complex and painful recovery process. It may take six or more months for her surgical wounds to heal completely.
Throughout the medical emergency, her mother, Becky Grisham Mathias, has been staying close to the hospital to care for Maeve and bring her for daily visits. The emotional, physical, and financial toll on the family is immense — including major medical bills, extended lodging costs, and day-to-day baby care, according to Rhonda Rogers Crawford, who is organizing the fundraiser.
The fundraiser features a variety of items for sale in an auction-style Facebook group titled “Auction Fundraiser for Miranda Mathias & Baby Maeve.” Some of the items being donated include cookies, pastries, a handmade bench, air conditioning service, a kitchen basket filled with utensils and other items, several sets of nail polish sets and more.
The instructions for how to place a bid are on the Facebook page under the “Featured” tab. But, basically, photos of specific items that are being donated are posted on the page. Anyone who wants to bid on an item does so by commenting on the photo. The overall fundraiser will be open through July 27, but some items may have earlier deadlines; read the text for each item for the details. The highest bid wins the items, and every donation will be given to Mathias and her family to help take care of their expenses related to her hospitalization and medical treatment.
There is information on the Facebook page about how you donate items for the fundraiser. Some of the suggestions include gift cards, services, baked goods, and other items. Additionally, details about how to make a monetary donation directly to the family are featured on the Facebook page.
Both Mathias and Brogdon are Breckenridge High School graduates, Class of 2017 and Class of 2012, respectively. They and their families live and work in the Breckenridge community.
