Stephens Memorial Hospital is celebrating National Hospital Week this week, starting with the annual Blessing of the Hands with the Rev. Otho Noggle on Monday, May 12, and wrapping up with the Hospital Week Cookout tomorrow, Friday, May 16.

The annual cookout on the front lawn of the hospital, 200 S. Geneva St., will feature free hotdogs and hamburgers for the community from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Everyone is welcomed to join the hospital staff for lunch.

On Monday, a group of SMH employees gathered in a circle at the hospital’s helicopter landing pad. Rev. Noggle took a small bottle of olive oil and walked around to each person in the circle, pouring a small amount of the oil into their hands. During the service, he talked about the role the olive tree in the Bible and the history of the healing properties of olive oil. He then closed the ceremony with a prayer.
