Frontier Days scheduled for May 2-3; variety of events, contests, entertainment planned

Breckenridge’s annual Frontier Days event is scheduled for May 2-3, and the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce is looking for volunteers to help out with some of the events. Several events have registration deadlines coming up soon.

This year’s festivities will include the Bob Drake Memorial Chuckwagon Cook-off, Miss Breckenridge Pageant, Breck’s Got Talent, Bake-Off, a car show, a local song swap and more. New this year will be the Stephens Memorial Hospital Color Burst 5K run and a sand volleyball tournament.

There will be a variety of entertainment options, including the Classy Clogging group from Weatherford and the Old West Gunfighters, as well as shopping opportunities at the vendor and food booths.

Especially for kids, there will be bounce houses, stick horse races, and more.

Maylun VanWinkle, the event manager for the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce, said the organizers need volunteers to help with various events and activities during Frontier Days. If you’d like to volunteer, contact VanWinkle at 254-559-2301.

Miss Breckenridge Pageant

The 2025 Miss Breckenridge Pageant will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Trade Barn in the Breckenridge City Park.

The deadline to sign-up for the pageant is Friday, April 18. Registration packets are available for pickup at the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce office, 100 E. Elm St.

Bake-Off

The 2025 Frontier Days Bake-Off will be Saturday, May 3, at the Trade Barn in the Breckenridge City Park.

The entry fee will be $5 each.The entries will be judged on three criteria, taste, appearance and best overall. The winners will receive cash prizes: First Place, $100; Second Place, $75; Third Place, $25.

Volleyball Tournament

The inaugural Frontier Days Volleyball Tournament is set to take place on May 3, offering a competitive event for co-ed teams made up of players in 9th grade and above.

The tournament will feature a double elimination format. Teams will compete with five players on the court at a time, playing matches that are best two out of three and played to 10 points.

Registration is $20 per player and includes a t-shirt. Interested participants must register by April 18. To sign up, contact Mercedes Luna at 325-603-5464. Payments can be made through Cash App or Venmo using the QR codes provided on the tournament flyer on the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook page.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated toward improvements to the sand volleyball court in the Breckenridge City Park.

Color Burst 5K

Stephens Memorial Hospital will host the Color Burst 5K and Color Burst 1K Fun Run as part of the upcoming Stephens County Frontier Days celebration. The Color Burst 5K & 1K will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Breckenridge City Park.

The Color Burst 5K is open to participants of all ages and features an untimed, minimally competitive course. Runners will be showered with colorful powders throughout the route, creating a festive and vibrant wardrobe at the end. Participants are encouraged to wear white or light-colored clothing to enhance the color effect. Children in 5th grade and below must be accompanied by an adult, and children under age 5 may join an adult participant at no cost.

The Color Burst 1K Fun Run is designed for children through 5th grade and offers a short, playful course to enjoy the festivities.

Registration packets  will be available for pickup at the Breckenridge City Park Trade Barn on Friday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on Saturday, May 3, beginning at 7:30 a.m. and continuing until the start of the race.

Race day begins at 7:30 a.m. with registration, followed by the 1K Fun Run at 8 a.m. and the 5K Color Burst Run at 8:30 a.m.

Breck’s Got Talent

The annual Breck’s Got Talent event will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Trade Barn in the Breckenridge City Park.

This year, there will be two age groups: 8-13 years and 14 & up.
