SMH board selects Gena Speer as hospital’s new CEO

Last week, the Stephens Memorial Hospital District’s Board of Directors selected Gena Speer as the hospital’s new Chief Executive Officer/Administrator.
Speer has more than 20 years of experience in the rural healthcare setting, having worked in direct care, supervision, quality and risk management, operational and budgetary oversight, and administration.
She is stepping into the new role following the December 2024 resignation of former CEO Brian Roland; Mike Easley has been serving as the interim CEO.
Originally from Eastland County, Speer began her nursing career in 2004 at Eastland Memorial Hospital as a Licensed Vocational Nurse before transitioning to a Registered Nurse. Later, she advanced to Director of Acute Care and Quality Management and eventually became the Chief Nursing Officer.
In 2017, Speer moved from Eastland Memorial Hospital to Goodall-Witcher Hospital in Clifton. While at Goodall-Witcher Hospital, she served on the District’s Administrative Council, where she participated in strategic planning, operational oversight, compliance monitoring, risk mitigation, and quality improvement.
In 2021, she began working at Stephens Memorial Hospital as the Chief Nursing Officer, where she has served as administrative director for all clinical departments.
