Donald Wright

Donald Sidney Wright, a long-time resident of Watauga, Texas, died March 19, 2025, at his home at the age of 93. His graveside service will be on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Hart Cemetery, in Stephens County, Texas, under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home.
Donald was born at home in Harpersville, Texas, south of Breckenridge, on February 23, 1932. His family later moved to Breckenridge where he graduated high school. He worked various jobs around town, including driving a truck for his father. It was while running his daily route that he met and fell in love with Peggy. They married on his birthday in 1963 and soon moved to Fort Worth to raise their family. He spent over 20 years employed by Miller Brewing Company, where he maintained many friendships beyond his retirement in 1994.
Donald was a huge Breckenridge Buckaroo fan and team assistant during their glory years of the 1950s. Over the years, he went back home to Breckenridge to attend games and visit his parents – bringing his sons and grandsons along while sharing many stories from his favored memories. He enjoyed fishing from the family’s stock tanks scattered around the rugged southern Stephens County countryside. He was an avid card and dominoes player who never missed an opportunity to play with kids and friends. He taught his sons to play and enjoy those games when they were barely able to count. He was a fan of the local sports teams – in particular, the Dallas Cowboys, of whom he would never miss sitting down to watch a game.
He never missed an opportunity to enjoy a fine Swisher Sweet cigar, which could be found in the corner of his mouth when strict concentration was required at the card table.
Late in life, he was a daily patron and early morning fixture of the local Joe’s Coffee shop, where he seldom skipped having his scrambled eggs and gravy. He was a kind man that cared for those around him and truly took joy in the simplest things in life.
He is predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Peggy Ann Jenkins; their son, Ricky; his father, Sidney Wright; his mother, Wilma Jacqueline Brock; and a sister, Karen Rachel.
Donald is survived by two sons, David Wright of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Larry Wright of Saginaw, Texas; two sisters Shirley Clement and Linda Bevers of Irving, Texas; grandsons Danny Cantu, Joshua Wright, Samuel Wright, and Randy Wright and his wife Katie and their children Allison, Amarie and Ava; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
