Ellison Harkley, 90, of Breckenridge, Texas, passed away on January 16, 2025. His memorial service at Melton-Kitchens Chapel of Memories will be held on Saturday, February 1, beginning at 11 a.m., with Danny Brown officiating.

He was born in Farmersville, Texas, on April 31, 1934, to the late Claudine Walker and Addison Harkey.

Ellison went to Booker T. Washington. He met his wife, Velma, in Sweetwater, Texas. He served his country from July 2, 1952 to June 11, 1956, and he continued to work hard throughout his lifetime to provide for his family.

He was a kind and generous man, a hard worker, an excellent provider, and an absolute gift from God. His voice was gentle. His actions were intentional. You never caught him without a smile on his face. He loved hard and without limitations. He was loved by so many and will be missed by all who knew him.

Ellison is preceded in death by Henry Frazier, Rodger Wayne Mitchell, Sara Harkey, Jewel Harkey, Clifford Harkey, and Mellony Harrison.

He is survived by his wife, Velma Harkley; brother, Frank Harkey; his sister, Cora Mae; his daughter, Grace Harrison; son, Amos Harrison, and wife, Felicia Wilson; son, Strauss McCreary; his nieces/nephews; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

“A kind man is one who sees the struggles of others, not with indifference, but with a compassionate heart, always ready to lend a helping hand, a listening ear, or a simple word of encouragement, understanding that even the smallest act of kindness can ripple outwards, making the world a better place, one smile at a time.” Thank you, Granddaddy!

Condolences can be made at meltonkitchens.com, and donations in Ellison’s honor can be made to the donor’s choice and can be left at Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home.
