BJHS students present award-winning play to community

Last week, the Breckenridge Junior High School One-Act Play troupe performed their award-winning performance of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” for a hometown audience at Bailey Auditorium.
Junior high and high school students joined parents, grandparents and others in the audience for the production. The play focuses on Grace Bradley, who is chosen to direct the annual Christmas pageant after the usual director, Mrs. Armstrong, breaks her leg. Grace has to deal with something no one else has ever had to deal with when directing the Christmas pageant: the Herdmans, a family of unruly children who aren’t familiar with the Christmas story. Much to the dismay of the traditionalists, Grace gives the Herdman children in key parts in the pageant.
Chaos and hilarity ensue, as the Herdmans put their own, non-conventional spin on the story. In the end, the pageant is presented and impresses even the biggest doubters.
Earlier this month, the BJHS group presented the play at two one-act play competitions in Stephenville. They placed second at the OAP Festival at Tarleton University on Tuesday, Dec. 3, and won first place at the District OAP competition on Wednesday, Dec. 4. Additionally, several of the students earned individual honors — one for best crew, two as all-star cast members and three as honorable mention all-star cast.
