The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce will host its annual community awards ceremony next month, and nominations are due on Wednesday, Oct. 30. The theme for this year’s event is “A Celebration of Hometown Heroes.”

There are several changes to this year’s event, including three new awards and the Taste of Breckenridge.

The awards ceremony is being held separately from the banquet and fundraising auction this year; the banquet is scheduled for February 2025.

The community awards will be presented in a ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 9, at the First Methodist Church’s Christian Life Center, 419 W. Walker St. The doors will open at 6 p.m.; food will be available at 6:30 (see more information in the Taste of Breckenridge section below); and, the program will begin at 7 p.m.

Tickets cost $15 per person, and businesses can reserve a sponsored table (seats 8) for $200. Call the Chamber at 254-559-2301 or stop by the office at 100 E. Elm St. to purchase tickets.

Community Awards

In addition to the traditional awards — Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, Ag Citizen of the Year, Educator of the Year and Civic Organization  of the Year — there will be awards for the Influencer of the Year, Community Partner of the Year and Local Artist of the Year.

According to the guidelines for nominations, the Influencer of the Year should post often across social media platforms, demonstrating high levels of engagement with their audience through likes, shares, comments, and interactions. The Outstanding Community Partner should have a consistent history of involvement and support for community initiatives and organizations. Evidence of significant positive contributions to the community. Ability to work effectively with various stakeholders, including local government, non-profits, businesses, and community members. The Local Artist of the Year should actively engage with the community through exhibitions, performances, workshops, or other outreach activities that promote art and culture.

There are three ways to nominate a person, business or organization for an award:

  • Fill out the Chamber’s online form (click here to access)
  • Mail the nomination to PO Box 1466, Breckenridge, TX 76424
  • Drop the nomination off at the Chamber offices located at 100 E. Elm St.

If you plan to mail in or drop off your nomination, be sure to include your name, your telephone number, the category in which you are making a nomination, the name of your nominee, a summary of why your nominee should receive the award, and details of your nominee’s achievements and contributions to the community.

All nominations must be received by the Chamber by Wednesday, Oct. 30.

Taste of Breckenridge

At this year’s community awards ceremony, the meal will be served via the Taste of Breckenridge, showcasing several local restaurants, caterers and food providers.

The restaurants will be donating their time and resources to provide their fare to the attendees. It will be set up similarly to the Taste of the Holidays event that the Rotary Club of Breckenridge hosted in the past.

Yuri Huntington, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, said those attending the event will have an opportunity to vote on the Top Taste and Top Table of the participating restaurants.

Businesses that would like to participate in the Taste of Breckenridge should contact the Chamber at 254-559-2301.

Information about the awards ceremony and the Taste of Breckenridge is available on the Chamber’s website and Facebook page.
