A group of East Elementary students and their families participated in a “car show” and “drive-in movie” night at the school last week.

The homemade cars were entered into the contest by categories — Car, Truck and Whimsical — and were voted on by everyone in attendance. The winners were announced at the end of the evening, Wednesday, Sept. 11.

The winners were:

  • Car — Daniel Resendiz, first grade
  • Truck — Camila Resendiz, pre-k
  • Whimsical — Alister Smith, first grade

Also participating in the event were:

  • Car
    • Brendan (kindergarten), Cara (pre-k) and Delilah (not in school yet) Overman
  • Truck
    • John Nichols (kindergarten)
  • Whimsical
    • Corley White (kindergarten)
    • Perrie Roberson (kindergarten)

After the cars were judged, the kids, along with parents, siblings and school staff, watched the short film “Stick Man,” based on the children’s story of the same name. Higginbotham Brothers provided the popcorn.
