Breckenridge High School holds Commencement Ceremony for Class of 2024’s 89 graduates

It was standing-room only at the BISD Athletic Center Friday night, May 24, as the community showed up for Breckenridge High School’s Class of 2024 Commencement Ceremony.

Eighty-nine graduates dressed in the traditional Buckaroo green caps and gowns were awarded their diplomas as the large crowd looked on, often cheering on the students. All of the seats in the gym were filled, and many guests watched the ceremony from the foyer.

Many of the graduates had their mortarboards decorated, and some wore special collars, sashes (stoles) and/or cords signifying various honors, worn in addition to the white BHS sash. Those included:

    • National Honor Society – White NHS collar
    • Dual Credit – Gold cord
    • SAT/ACT Endorsement – Purple cord
    • Industrial Arts Endorsement – Kelly Green Cord
    • Dual Blood Donor – Red cord
    • FFA – Blue and gold cord
    • FCCLA — Red and white cord
    • Theater Honor Society — Blue and gold cord

Following the invocation by Zaea Ragle, BHS Principal Paul Armstrong handed out several special awards. Then, Salutatorian Violeta Gallegos gave the salutatory address and Valedictorian Zaea Ragle gave the valedictory address.

Interim BISD Superintendent Prairie Freeman made the presentation of the class. Then, Armstrong read each graduate’s name, and BISD School Board President Nic McClymond and others presented the diplomas to the students. The district’s administration and school board members congratulated the graduates as they returned to their seats.

After the diplomas had been awarded, Bryson Herring gave the benediction, and the graduates tossed their caps and confetti into the air. The event wrapped up with the students singing the school song. As everyone exited the building, the celebrations continued outside with families and friends gathering for photos and hugs.

Scholarships and other awards were presented at a ceremony earlier in the month.

The Breckenridge Texan had too many photos for just one photo gallery, so we divided it into two galleries — one set of pictures is of the graduates getting ready for the ceremony, and the second set is of the ceremony and afterwards:
