Myrtle Jane Watson
Myrtle Jane Watson, affectionately known as Granny to all she met, age 85, of Breckenridge, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 5, at Morehart Mortuary with Russell Brock officiating. Interment will follow in the Breckenridge Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at Morehart Mortuary.
Myrtle Jane Lester was born March 3, 1939, in Hamlin, Texas, to Marjorie Mayhall Lester and John Henry Lester. On May 6, 1966, she married Lee Roy Watson in Breckenridge. Jane was a clerk at the Whoa-n-Go for many years. There, she came to know many of the county’s residents. She knew them by name and what they were going to buy before they came in the door. She later worked in the school cafeteria for a few years before retiring to take care of her grandkids. She was a seamstress and quilter and loved to crochet blankets for all of her family. Soon after, Jane started to babysit school teacher’s children before officially retiring in 2004. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Woodson for many years before moving back to Breckenridge. While living in Breckenridge, she attended Calvary Baptist Church and Crystal Falls Baptist Church.
Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marjorie Lester; her husband, Lee Roy Watson; one daughter, Vickie Rogers; and six brothers and three sisters.
Jane is survived by two daughters, Liz Boggess and Tammy Carey and husband Rusty; one son, Rocky Rogers and wife Sharon; daughter-in-law, Marjorie Drummond; nine grandchildren and their spouses; twenty great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
