The National Theatre of Breckenridge has two events coming up in April: a free movie this Saturday, April 6, and the final concert in the 2023-24 Performance Series on Friday, April 26.

At 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, the local, historic theater will show the movie “The Boys in the Boat.” There will be no charge for admission, but concessions will be available for purchase.

According to the National Theatre, “The Boys in the Boat” is a sports drama based on the New York Times bestselling non-fiction novel by Daniel James Brown. The film, directed by George Clooney, is about the 1936 University of Washington rowing team that competed for gold at the Summer Olympics in Berlin. This true story follows a group of underdogs at the height of the Great Depression as they are thrust into the spotlight and take on elite rivals from around the world.

Later this month, the 2023-24 Performance Series will wrap up with a concert by Brett Taylor and Friends. The doors will open at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 26, with the concert beginning at 7 p.m.

Taylor, a Texas native who has lived in Tennessee for more than 15 years, is bringing along some of his songwriting friends from Nashville. The show will consist of a 45-minute set of Taylor and his friends performing original music “in-the-round.” And then, after intermission, he will take the stage with his full band, playing a mix of original songs and a few covers.

Along with being one-third of the folk group Shadowlands, Taylor also writes songs for other artists in country, folk and gospel. His first major label cut is a song called “Hallelujahville,” recorded and performed by Tim McGraw and released in 2020 on the album “Here On Earth.”

Advance-purchased tickets cost $20 each for adults (18 and older) and $10 each for students (age 17 and younger). Click here to purchase tickets online. The Performance Series’ presenting sponsor, Blackhorse Mercantile & Cafe, will be selling wine and beer in the National Theatre’s bar area (must be 21 to drink, valid ID required).
