Treon Dunn Thompson, 88, of Breckenridge, Texas, died on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Elison Assisted Living in Graham, Texas. Her memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, in the Melton-Kitchens Chapel of Memories, with Gary Trammel officiating.

Treon was born in the house of her grandparents in Big Spring, Texas, on December 5, 1935, to Mittie Viola Owen Dunn and William Charles Dunn.

Her family moved to Breckenridge on April 1, 1941. Treon graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1954 and then attended TCU, where she majored in education in 1958. She taught first and second grades in Fort Worth and then in Breckenridge. On July 2, 1960, she married Bill Goff Thompson in a ceremony at the First Christian Church in Breckenridge. Soon after her marriage, she quit teaching so she could travel with Bill, an attorney, when he had cases out of town. She loved visiting the historic courthouses of Texas. Treon enjoyed traveling, crafting, and taking care of her family. She and a group of other women in Breckenridge had a Santa Claus exchange each year for many years. Treon would spend the entire year making Santa Clauses of all sorts and then exchange with her group. The family would also get one of these hand-crafted Santas for Christmas. She was also an avid stamp collector and prolific letter writer.

In high school, she played clarinet in the Buckaroo Band and then joined the TCU Horned Frog Band. Even though she was not very good at playing the clarinet, she joined so she could go on all the out-of-town football trips. During the summers, she worked at the 5 & 10 and then later at First National Bank.

Treon was preceded in death by her parents, William Charles and Mittie Dunn; her husband, Bill; her brothers, Billie Owen Dunn and Charles Jack Dunn; and her sister, Delmelia Dunn.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Jane Wrinkle and husband Edgar of Hutto, Texas; sons, John Bill Thompson of Hutto, and James Robert Thompson and wife Karen of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Christina Hart and husband Ty of San Marcos, Texas, Hunter Riza and partner Megan of Richmond Hill, Georgia, along with Morgan Thompson, William Thompson, Dylan Thompson, Hayley Waller, and Kelsey Waller, all of Fort Worth; great-grandchildren, Zoe Hart, Beckett Hart, Oakleigh Hart, and Braddax Hart, all of San Marcos, as well as Colton and Killian Riza of Richmond Hill; and special friends, Sally and Emilio Mendoza of Breckenridge.

The family would like to thank the staff at Elison Assisted Living, Young County Home Health, and Beyond Faith Hospice for their loving care and affection for Treon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to a charity or organization of the donor’s choice. Those donations can be left at Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home. Messages of condolence can be left online at meltonkitchens.com.
