SCJLS 2024: Josiah Moreno shows Grand Champion Pen of Poultry, wins showmanship contest

The second day of the 2024 Stephens County Junior Livestock Show began with the Poultry Division with Chris Beard judging the competition Friday morning, Jan. 5.

The results of the poultry competition are listed below:

POULTRY DIVISION

Class 16 – 1. Grayson Holman; 2. Alyssa Riddle; 3. Emily Morin
Class 17– 1. Chloe Pugh; 2. Zane Diaz; 3. Tristan Diaz
Class 18 – 1. Josiah Moreno; 2. Chloe Pugh; 3. Josiah Moreno; 4. Violet Fitch

Grand Champion – Pen of Poultry: Josiah Moreno
Reserve Champion – Pen of Poultry: Chloe Pugh

Senior Poultry Showmanship — Josiah Moreno
Junior Poultry Showmanship — Grayson Holman

The poultry contest was judged by Chris Beard of Albany, who also judged the ag mechanics competition. Beard has been the ag teacher at Albany High School for almost 30 years. He and his wife, Susie, have three children and three grandchildren. He also raises livestock and serves on numerous boards in Shackelford County.
