Tommy Southerland, age 86, of Breckenridge, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 8, at Morehart Mortuary Chapel with Rex Boggs officiating. Interment will follow in the Live Oak Ranch Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Tommy Southerland was born August 8, 1937, in Frankel, Texas, to John Leslie Southerland and Mary Gladis Roberts Southerland. After high school, he married Kay Shockley on June 10, 1955. Tommy went on to attend Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. He established Tabernacle Baptist Church and was a pastor there for 34 years. He also worked as a welder all over Stephens County. Most notably, he made the famous Buckaroo “B” that sits on top of the bank downtown. Once he retired, he began to ranch and raise goats. Tommy was always busy, and even repaired antiques and jewelry. He loved people and was a wonderful and loving dad and husband.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gary Ray Southerland; and two brothers, Robert and Jerry Southerland.

Mr. Southerland is survived by his wife, Kay Southerland of Breckenridge; two daughters, Carol Kuhn and Ann George, both of Breckenridge; three grandchildren, Brian Tribble, Scott Tribble, and Katrina Jackson and husband Caleb; and six great-grandchildren.
