UPDATE: TxDOT posted the following in a post on the social media service X, formerly known as Twitter: “Stephens County Traffic Alert: Maintenance will close the US 180 bridge over Hubbard Creek Reservoir. Those traveling from Breckenridge should detour to US 183 N to US 283 S (just south of Throckmorton) to Albany.”

The Texas Department of Transportation is in the process of shutting down the “Mile-Long Bridge” on U.S. Highway 180 West over Hubbard Creek Reservoir, according to a Facebook post by Stephens County Judge Michael Roach.

Shortly before 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, Roach posted the following:

“The Texas Department of Transportation has informed Stephens County that the ‘Mile Long Bridge’/ 180 West will be closed ASAP. The bridge failed an inspection and will undergo major repairs. We will update the public as soon as we know more information.”

At 4:55 p.m., the bridge had not been shut down.

The Breckenridge Texan is seeking more information about the situation and will update this story as soon as possible.
