Javier Anthony passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, November 12, 2023, and went on to enjoy eternity with Jesus.

Javier Anthony Mares made his dramatic entrance into this world on September 6, 2003, in Grapevine, Texas. Despite being born 10 weeks early, at only 2 lbs. 10 oz., he made it clear that he was here to embrace life and affect all those that would come to know him.

He was happiest being surrounded by his family, and especially being right alongside his Granny. He loved fulfilling his role as Big Brother to Jacob, Lydia, and Papi Joel, and biggest helper to his Papi and Mommy. He was always proud of everything his siblings were doing and he was their greatest supporter and cheerleader. For all his loved ones on their birthdays, he prided himself on making a special Superman birthday card, which always included a large S on the front.

He eagerly anticipated Sundays every week. His favorite place to be was at Church where he joyfully greeted everyone with a smile and a hug. There was never any doubt about how much Javier Anthony loved worshipping the Lord. When praise service started, he was always the first one to the front to worship. He faithfully served at Way of Life, Camino de Vida, and Lighthouse Church in various roles, such as taking up the offering, turning off the lights and monitors at the end of service, sometimes before everyone had left, and ensuring that his Pastor’s iPad and cordless mic were in their proper places. No one was more excited to clean and vacuum the church than Javier Anthony.

Through the years, he embodied all his favorite characters. His early years included Cat in the Hat and Popeye the Sailor Man. When his love for old westerns started, Javier Anthony refused to be seen without his cowboy get-up, as he imitated John Wayne, the Lone Ranger, and Rifleman. His ultimate favorite character ended up being Superman, and you rarely saw him without his Superman T-shirt and cape. Whenever anyone asked if he liked Superman he would immediately inform them “I AM.”

He filled our lives with love, laughter, and joy. Everyone that knew him loved him and he left an indelible mark on everyone he met. Although we feel he left us way too soon, we know he is now directing the biggest angel choir in heaven.

Javier Anthony Mares is survived by his parents, Javier and Samantha Mares; loving siblings, Jacob, Lydia, and Joel; maternal grandmother, Teresa Ingram; paternal grandmother, Rufina Reyes Garcia; paternal great grandmother, Celia Garcia Castro; many uncles, aunts, cousins, as well as Church family and friends. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Severiano Mares Jimenez.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 17, at The Lighthouse Church. Interment will follow in the Breckenridge Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, November 16, at The Lighthouse Church. Memorials may be made to The Lighthouse Church. Condolences may be made online at www.morehartmortuary.net.
