For the first concert in their 2023-24 concert series, the Friends of Historic Breckenridge, owners of the historic National Theatre in downtown Breckenridge, will present The Quebe Sisters, who performed here more than 10 years ago, on Friday, Oct. 20.

Tickets cost $20 for adults age 18 and older and $10 for students age 17 and younger, purchased in advance online (click here to order). They may be purchased at the door, as available, for $25 for adults and $15 for students.

The doors of the National Theatre, located at 116 E. Walker St., will open at 6 p.m., and the concert will start at 7 p.m.

The Quebe Sisters have been performing for 23 years, delivering their triple fiddle and three-part harmony sound to the concert halls and festivals of North America and Europe. Described as “an innovative Progressive Western Swing band of archtop guitar, upright bass, fiddles, and sibling harmony,” the Dallas-based five-piece presents a blend of Western Swing, Jazz-influenced Swing, Country, Texas-Style Fiddling, and Western music.

The band is made up of sisters Grace, Sophia, and Hulda Quebe.

In their band bio, Grace Quebe explains their style: “We differentiate our music as ‘Progressive Western Swing’ from simply ‘Western Swing’ because we aren’t trying to sound just like Bob Wills. Instead, we continue his vision, playing the style he pioneered in an authentic way by incorporating new genres and songs, interpreting them using our own unique voice through Country instrumentation.”

The Breckenridge performance is part of their “Bye, For Now” tour, which will wrap up at the end of the year. Then, the sisters plan to take a hiatus from touring and performing, according to a post on their blog.

Some of their previous appearances have Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Prairie Home Companion, Austin City Limits with Asleep at the Wheel, Grand Ole Opry and many other U.S. and European locations.

According to the FOHB, the concert is being presented by Blackhorse Mercantile & Cafe, which will also be serving wine and beer in the National Theatre’s bar area (must be 21 to drink, valid ID required). Sponsorships also have been provided by Clear Fork Bank, Interbank, and Graham Savings.
