Two upcoming health-related events planned for Breckenridge

The Stephens County AgriLife Extension office will host a Community & Family Health Expo on Saturday, Sept. 30, and Stephens Memorial Hospital will host the annual Health Fair on Saturday, Oct. 14.

This weekend’s Health Expo, presented by the Community Conversation on Health Coalition-Breckenridge, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at First Methodist Church, 419 W. Walker St. The event will be free and open to the public.

The Health Expo will feature:

  • Healthy lifestyle demonstrations and education — a Texercise demo by West Central Texas, starting a home garden/hanging garden, an AgriLife Extension cooking demo for busy families and an obstacle course for kids.
  • Healthy Lifestyle check-up
  • Vaccines — school age and adult vaccines. Eligibility: uninsured, underinsured and Medicaid insured. Bring shot records. Flu shots available.
  • Other tips and resources — mental health assessment and workshop, estate planning, how to avoid elder fraud, HIV/STD testing

On Saturday, Oct. 14, Stephens Memorial Hospital will host its annual Health Fair at First Baptist Church, 301 S. Rose St. The event will be from 7 to 11 a.m.

The Health Fair will feature more than 40 vendors, as well as door prizes, flu shots for $20 and free lab tests. The lab tests, sponsored by Stephens Memorial Hospital, will include glucose, BUN, creatinine, sodium, potassium, CO2 chloride, cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides, HDL, CBC, Hgb A1C and PSA (for men over 40). Anyone planning to have the free lab test should not eat or drink after midnight (Friday night/Saturday morning) with the exception of water, plain coffee or plain tea (no sugar, sweetener or cream, etc.).
