Geraldine (Fleetwood) Herrington, 80, and Donald Elbert Herrington, 85, passed from this life on July 1, 2023. They leave behind their two sons and daughters-in-law, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. They were Christians and members of the Gunsight Baptist Church. They were married 62 years before the passing of Geraldine only a short nine hours prior to Donald’s death. The couple will be laid to rest at the Breckenridge Cemetery beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, with Rex Boggs officiating.

Geraldine was born to Lawson Fleetwood and Ora Elizabeth (Hill) Fleetwood on June 19, 1943. The youngest of 10, she entered this world with her best friend and future partner in crime, her twin sister, Shirley Fleetwood Wells. She met Donald Elbert Herrington, of Woodson, Texas, and they married on December 3, 1960. The two made their home in Breckenridge after Don completed his service in the U.S. Military. Geraldine was not afraid to get her hands dirty and did not mind working. She and Don worked side-by-side raising their family and building the home they lived together in for over 40 years. They also had fun together. They played in a volleyball league, coached the boys in baseball, fished, and hunted. As stay-at-home mothers, she and Shirley made it a point to get together weekly so their boys could play together while the two ladies crafted and enjoyed each other’s company. An autoimmune disease struck her early in life and presented many obstacles, debilitating her somewhat; however, she did not allow it to stop her from doing everything she wanted to do. As painful as it was, she did not complain. She moved forward each day with a “get things done” attitude.

Don was born on March 25, 1938, to Marvin and Allie Herrington. He was raised on the family farm in Throckmorton County, Texas, and graduated from Woodson High School. Don helped his father in a service station business before trying his talents in the TV repair business and working for Mehaffey TV, Furniture, and Appliance. He then went to work at Triple S Dynamics, where he later retired. In retirement, he enjoyed gardening and raising chickens. Don made many trips from Breckenridge back to the family farm in Woodson throughout his life. He always enjoyed going home where he could enjoy time with the cattle and maybe throw out a fishing line to see what would bite.

The grandchildren, and later their great-granddaughter, were such a blessing to the two of them and were the light of their lives. They couple spent their retirement years entertaining the four of them and making sure they attended any activity in which any of them were involved. Geraldine and Don always looked forward to the visits and phone calls they would get from them.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bud Robertson, JB Robertson, Frank Robertson, Kenneth Robertson, and Rob Robertson; and sisters, Vida Robertson, Anna Bee McPherson, and Shirley Wells.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, and the love of his life, Geraldine.

They are survived by their two sons, Michael and wife Jeannine, and Bobby and wife Jennifer, all of Breckenridge; three granddaughters, Chelsey Cook and husband Travis of Lampasas, Megan Herrington of Abilene, and Taylor Herrington of Manor; one grandson, Zane Herrington of Breckenridge; one great-granddaughter, Kennedy Cook; one sister, Margie Robertson; one special nephew, Tony Wells and wife Mindy; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank each of you for your prayers and kind words throughout the last few months. It means more to them than you know. Her spunk will live on with her family through the memories each one holds.

Memorial donations in Geraldine’s or Don’s name can be made to an organization or charity of the donor’s choice and can be left at Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home. Condolences can be left online at
