Lehr wins second State Track Meet gold medal in 800m; Wimberley takes bronze in 200m
Breckenridge Buckaroo Chase Lehr is the State Champion for the second year in a row after setting another personal record, as well as a school record, in the 800-meter run.
Breckenridge High School sent six track athletes to the 2023 UIL 3A Track and Field State Meet today, May 11, in Austin.
Lehr finished the 800m with a time of 1:51.82, earning the gold medal. In second place was Lucas Rizo of Crane, 1:53.27, and in third place was Grant Sims of Elysian Fields, 1:56.57.
Not only did Lehr set a new personal record, but he also broke the school record he set last year. At the 2022 Regional meet, he broke the 32-year-old BHS record with his time of 1:54.45.
Sawyer Wimberley placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.82. He was just fractions of a second behind first-place Luke McMullen of Jefferson, 21.23, and second-place Andon Mata of New London West Rusk, 21.68.
Adler Loftis placed fifth in the discus throw with a distance of 155 feet.
The 4×400 (1,600-meter) relay team of Karter Smalley, Angel Alvarado, Jaime Cruz and Chase Lehr placed fifth with a time of 3:23.65.
Overall, the Buckaroo team placed 8th overall at the track meet with 22 points
