Several teachers and students were honored at the Breckenridge Independent School District’s Board of Trustees meeting Monday night, May 8.
Superintendent Bryan Allen announced that fourth-grade math teacher Marlene Coplen is the BISD Elementary Teacher of the Year and Mindy West, a high school social studies teacher, is the Secondary Teacher of the Year. In addition to being honored locally, they will have the opportunity to apply for the Region 14 Teacher of the Year award.
Allen also said that normally the Breckenridge High School valedictorian and salutatorian are announced at the May school board meeting. However, the grade point averages of the two students are too close to make that announcement yet, he said. The school is waiting on grades from some dual-credit classes the students are taking. Once their scores are calculated, the honors will be announced.
The Students of the Month were also honored at the meeting. Tyrone Babcock Jr. is the East Elementary Student of the Month, and Kelyn Collinsworth is the South Elementary Student of the Month. Carson Couch-McClure is the junior high Student of the Month, and Keaton Ragle is the high school Student of the Month.
Additionally, several National Honor Society members were recognized for their work with the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce this year. Those honored were Heer Gandi – Special Recognition, Kamryn Larremore – Special Recognition, Emily Gooch, Chase Wright, Lynzi Poindexter, Jazmin Trejo, Violetta Gallegos, Calli Griffin, Stephen Sanchez and Tristen Myers.
