BHS athletes sign with area colleges
Five Breckenridge High School student athletes signed with area colleges on Friday, Feb. 3, in a ceremony that had been rescheduled because of the winter storm that created hazardous driving conditions for most of the week, leading to the schools being closed for four days.
Signing with Abilene Christian University were Buckaroo football player Jerry Lawson, defensive lineman, and track team member Sean Cooksey. Track athlete Chase Lehr signed with the University of North Texas. Signing with Cisco Junior College were Buckaroo cheerleader McKenna Adams and athletic trainer Kendal Andrade.

“Their work and dedication to their sport and to their teams is evident today. Their dreams are getting to come true today,” said Casey Pearce, Breckenridge Independent School District Athletic Director. “Remember this, after today, things change. The work ethic, dedication, your resilience is going to have to change, because to do it at the collegiate level is hard. But, you’re set up. You’ve got your fanbase, you’ve got family, and you’ve got the Buckaroo Nation. Today is a day for you to celebrate.”
The athletes were joined by their friends, family, coaches and other teachers and community members for the event, and Owen Simpson with KTXS-TV in Abilene was on-scene to interview the athletes.
