Lucy Perez, 55, of Abilene, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022. Her funeral Mass at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 30, 2022. A Rosary service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, December 29, 2022, beginning at 5:00 p.m. Her interment at the Breckenridge Cemetery will be under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home.

Lucy Mary Perez was born on January 5, 1967, and was the only daughter in her family, alongside her five brothers. She was a Breckenridge High School graduate and lived most of her life in Breckenridge before moving to Abilene. Lucy was very active in the Special Olympics throughout her life, especially from 2012 – 2020, until COVID put everything to a halt. She achieved many awards while doing so.

Lucy was a very strong and independent person. Her faith in the Lord was very strong. Lucy was known for her jokes, her loud, unique laughter, and her contagious personality. She was such an amazing person to be around.

Lucy enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks, and loved watching wrestling. She loved listening to music and singing her favorite songs. She especially enjoyed cookouts and family gatherings while listening to her favorite music, dancing, and having a good time! One thing you could always find her doing was picking on her brothers, something she truly enjoyed!

Lucy loved her nephew Mark’s grilled chicken, her sister-like “Patty’s” homemade tortillas, hamburgers, onion rings, vanilla milkshakes, and her many attempts of always asking for just one more soda (Coke being her favorite of all). She never failed to ask her nephew “Manuel” for a cheeseburger every time she would see him. Overall, Lucy loved her family most and was just an all-around family gal! There was never a dull moment when Lucy was around. She truly was a special person!

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Emilio and Frances, along with three brothers, Alex Perez, Emilio Perez, and Joe Perez. She is survived by her brothers, Johny Perez and Richard Perez, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Memorial donations in her name can be made to the Special Olympics and can be left at the Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home office. Condolences can be made online at meltonkitchens.com.
