James DeGraffenreid, age 80 of Breckenridge, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2022. Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, in the Breckenridge Cemetery with Dannie Lee officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

James Thomas DeGraffenreid was born October 8, 1942, in Aspermont, Texas, to parents Floyd Ziner DeGraffenreid and Emma Lou Tarpley. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Navy. James worked as a mechanic for several years at the Ford house in Plainview, as well as at Breck Engine in Breckenridge. More recently he had worked at Walmart. He enjoyed fishing, working on old cars and watching old westerns.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his partner of 19 years, Mary “Fran” Hamilton; one sister, Nell Barron; one brother, Floyd Gale DeGraffenreid; and three grandchildren, Heather Renee Taylor, Dustin Leon Taylor and Cody Critchfield.

James is survived by five children, Sonya Harding and husband Larry of Austin, Lisa Solano of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Teresa Taylor, Vicki Critchfield and husband Shawn, and Johnny Ray Hamilton, all of Breckenridge; one sister, Shirley Fiske of Roundup, Montana; grandchildren, Samara DeGraffenreid Solano, Daniel Pacheco, Heather Pettke and husband Dustin, Misty Gabriel and husband Scott, Courtney Hyndman, John Paul Hamilton, Bud Taylor, Jay Taylor, Michael Hamilton, and Katherine Rose Hamilton; fifteen great-grandchildren; three nieces, Katrina Riesinger, Martha Sakamoto, MeLinda Barron; Bobbie DeGraffenreid; and his two dogs, Pedro and Molly.
