Edna May Portwood
Edna Portwood, 85, of Haskell, Texas, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2022. Her funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, in the Melton-Kitchens Chapel of Memories, with Pastor Rayford Michael Adams officiating. She will be laid to rest at Hart Cemetery following the funeral service. Her family will welcome friends for a visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Edna May (Jones) Portwood was born in Cisco, Texas, on May 8, 1937, to parents Roy and Ruby Jones. She was a hard worker from a very young age. It was at one such job, waiting tables, that she met Elton Clay Portwood, and the two were married on November 29, 1966. Clay was a consultant in the oilfield, which resulted in the couple calling many places home, including New Mexico, Oklahoma, and several Texas cities, before settling in Breckenridge, where the couple lived very happy lives together until his passing on May 5, 2003. Those in town know Edna as “the garage sale lady” because this was undeniably her passion — both hunting and attending sales as well as organizing her own. She had an eye for detail, whether it be in decorating her home — which she took great pride in — or creating and painting ceramics over the years. She was a devout Christian who loved the Lord with all her heart.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Ruby Jones; her first husband, Bobby Rayford Adams Sr.; one son, Bobby Rayford Adams Jr.; three brothers, Harold Jones, Bobby Jones, and Joe Jones; four sisters, Toy Aline Allday, Laverne Tedford, Helen Schkade, and Kay Tedford Stockton; one grandson, Jimbo Adams; and two daughters-in-law, Kelly Adams and Chrystal Adams. She is survived by her two sons, David Adams and Jimmy Adams, both of Breckenridge; ten grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; along with a whole host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
